Your opportunity 

As our client base and workload continues to grow in the North (NWT and NU), so too does our need to grow the team. Dillon’s Civil Engineering Team within our Communities & Environment technical group is looking for a Civil / Municipal Project Manager to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals and contribute to our continued success. Assignments span the entire project life-cycle from feasibility studies through preliminary and detailed design into construction administration. Municipal roads, community facilities, sub-surface municipal assets, community water supply, sewage disposal and treatment, and solid waste management are just some of the types of infrastructure projects this position would lead. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects in both an office and field setting, while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

 

The position is located in our Yellowknife office, and you will be working with a diverse team in offices across Canada.  With the recent retirement of our senior engineer, we are looking for someone to continue Dillon’s place as a leader in community infrastructure.  At Dillon, we take pride in our people, our products, and our relationships.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Project Management & Design (75%) 

  1. Technical lead and design on projects related to community infrastructure including water supply/distribution, sewer collection/treatment, roads, site servicing and storm water management
  2. Contribute technical expertise to functional design, detailed design and construction administration activities of multidisciplinary project teams
  3. Interact regulary with project team members including planners, environmental scientists, engineers and technologists
  4. Develop and interact with clients, agencies, utilities and other project stakeholders
  5. Travel to communities for projects and client development
  6. Working with municipal servicing standards and territorial regulatory requirements

Business Development (22%)

  1. Identify and develop new business opportunities including submissions responding to requests for proposals, preparation of proposals and statements of qualification
  2. Develop and maintain existing and new client relationships
  3. Business travel to client locations and/or other Dillon offices upon request

Learning & Development (3%)

  1. Support the career development of junior and intermediate staff, including direction in project management, training recommendations, coaching, and mentoring
  2. Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
  3. Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  1. Degree in civil engineering, preferably with a municipal focus
  2. Licensed to practice as a professional engineer, or eligible for licensure within six months of hire
  3. Minimum 7 years' related work experience, preferably in the consulting industry
  4. Project Management Professional certification, or similar certification, would be considered an asset

Experience

  1. Demonstrated success in the management of multidisciplinary projects, project teams and business development activities
  2. Demonstrated experience in budget development and budget control
  3. Experience in the design of municipal infrastructure including water supply systems, sewage systems, roadways, storm water management, underground and surface site servicing works, and/or waste management facilities
  4. Experience in contract administration services and requirements
  5. Knowledge of municipal servicing standards and environmental approval requirements
  6. Demonstrated skills in public and agency consultation
  7. Strong writing skills, including experience in the preparation of technical memos and reports, proposals, client communications, and public/agency presentations
  8. Experience with coaching and guiding less experienced team members in project delivery
