Your opportunity 


Dillon’s Planning & Design group is looking for a  Planner to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals in our Toronto, Oakville, Guelph, Kitchener and Hamilton offices. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting city building projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

What your day will look like



  1. Work with and support intermediate and senior planners in carrying out a range of land use planning projects and other specialized policy studies primarily for municipal clients across the GTA and Ontario
  2. Conduct and contribute to detailed research, including jurisdictional and legislative framework reviews
  3. Prepare and contribute to planning documents and reports including background reports, analytical and rationale reports, and plans
  4. Support policy development for land use plans and other community plans and projects, as needed, based on inputs from research and engagement.
  5. Prepare engagement and meeting materials, including summaries and memos, presentations, information panels, activities, and informational content for project websites
  6. Collaborate with technical and professional staff from across the company and sub-consultants
  7. Support client relationships and business growth in Ontario, including proposal writing
  8. Ensure professionalism and personal accountability for time management, quality control, troubleshooting of project work, and meeting timelines and budgets

What you will need to succeed

  1. A bachelor’s or graduate degree in planning from a planning program accredited by the Professional Standards Board
  2. Eligibility to attain full membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) within three (3) years of accepting the position
  3. One (1) to three (3) years of professional planning experience in Ontario, preferably in the consulting environment. We would consider a combination of applied academic experience, co-op experience and professional experience in tabulating the years of experience

Please note the person needs to be located in Toronto, Oakville, GuelphKitchener or Hamilton.


  1. Demonstrated understanding of the municipal and provincial land use planning policy framework in Ontario, including the PPS, Growth Plan, Greenbelt Plan and other legislation
  2. Experience in supporting the delivery of policy planning projects at a local or regional scale
  3. Strong written skills, with particular emphasis on reporting writing and policy analysis
  4. Ability to think critically and strategically
  5. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  6. Responsible, organized, accountable and committed to excellence
  7. Able to work in a self-directed, multidisciplinary team setting
