Your Opportunity


We are looking for an Environmental Planner with at least 10 years of experience who can help lead major transportation/transit EA and TPAP studies within the Greater Golden Horseshoe and contribute to Dillon’s reputation as innovators in the EA space.


Dillon Consulting Limited is currently seeking candidates for the position of Senior Environmental Planner in any of our Greater Golden Horseshoe offices (Toronto, Hamilton). You will be a member of Dillon’s national Environmental Planning group, with mentorship by senior advisors (30+ years of experience) who are industry leaders in all types of environmental assessments. You will work closely with our in-house teams of engagement specialists, biologists, environmental scientists, land use and policy planners, and the full range of engineering disciplines located in offices across Canada. You will be a key part of our multi-disciplinary group serving our diverse range of public sector clients.

What your day will look like


As a key team member, you will have the opportunity to:


Project Delivery (80%)

  1. Manage/lead projects for public sector clients related to Environmental Assessment (EA), environmental permitting and approvals, and environmental compliance monitoring, with a focus on transportation and transit Municipal Class EAs and TPAPs
  2. Work with multi-disciplinary teams on exciting and challenging projects, with a focus on removing barriers and improving access on roads, highways, transit, and active transportation facilities

Business Development (5%)

  1. Build client relationships through identification of market opportunities, client communications, preparation of proposals, and business development activities

Training & Corporate Initiatives (5%)

  1. Develop and lead innovative public and agency consultation programs
  2. Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees

Learning & Development (10%)

  1. Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
  2. Contribute to the career development of less tenured staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching, and mentoring
  3. Be coached and mentored by some of Canada’s most well-respected leaders in Individual EAs, MTO Class EAs, and Municipal Class EAs


What you will need to succeed


We’re looking for the following qualifications:

  1. A university degree or post-undergraduate college diploma in planning, environmental studies, biology or a related field
  2. 10+ years’ experience, preferably in the consulting industry, with an emphasis on transportation and transit EAs


Ideally, your experience can demonstrate the following:

  1. Successful project delivery as a Project Manager or Environmental Lead of Municipal Class EAs and TPAPs
  2. In-depth knowledge of relevant municipal, provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and regulatory permitting and approval requirements
  3. Experience in the design and delivery of stakeholder and Indigenous Community engagement programs, including the use of innovative virtual engagement tools
  4. Experience in business development activities including client development and responding to RFPs
  5. Environmental management during construction, including developing environmental management plans, on-site monitoring and documentation is considered an asset
