Your Opportunity

As an experienced Transit Environmental Lead, you will be a key member of the team that is securing Dillon’s role as the preferred environmental services provider for rapid transit projects in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.  You will work closely with the Manager of Business Development – Transit to grow revenue in a way that is respectful of our team members’ health and technical interests. 

 

We are looking for demonstrated experience delivering large, complex, multi-disciplinary transportation and transit-related projects, environmental permitting/approvals, and environmental compliance monitoring projects. Notable experience should include a leadership role delivering projects for subways, light rail transit, bus rapid transit, rail corridors and transit stations.

 

The ideal candidate will have experience with Metrolinx’s TPAP as well knowledge of the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and federal EA legislation (e.g., Impact Assessment Act, Canada Energy Regulator Act, etc.).   The successful candidate will have opportunities to hold various leadership roles, including Project Manager, Environmental Manager, Environmental Director, Environmental Team Lead, Senior Environmental Planner and others.  They will also be coached and mentored by some of Canada’s most well-respected leaders in Environmental Assessments, Project Management, and Business Development.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

 

As a key team member, you will have the following responsibilities and opportunities:

 

Project Delivery 

  • Manage/lead a team of multi-disciplinary professionals, guiding their growth and development by empowering, inspiring and energizing the team through project experience
  • Provide technical direction on EA process, environmental permitting and approvals, and environmental compliance monitoring - all with a focus on transit projects in the GTHA
  • Collaborate with other Project Partners and both public and private sector Clients
  • Work with the technical leads, Project Management Office, and Project Administrators to manage project quality, schedules and budgets, as well as develop tools and processes to streamline communications and project delivery
  • Assist with development of a transit resource and revenue growth strategy that reflects Dillon’s commitment to employee health and career development
  • Manage/oversee environmental issues associated with Project(s) including environmental monitoring, compliance with environmental obligations pertaining to specific Project Agreements and associated reporting
  • Liaise with clients and other governmental authorities and stakeholders on environmental issues related to the Project(s)

Business Development 

  • Build client relationships through identification of market opportunities, client communications, preparation of proposals, and business development activities
  • Assist with review and respond to RFPs and prepare project proposals
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees

Learning & Development 

  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • A university degree in planning, engineering or environmental studies or a related field
  • 15+ years of experience, preferably in the consulting industry, with an emphasis on transit and transportation projects
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset but not required
  • Experience working with Metrolinx
  • Strong communication, report writing, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Eligibility, full membership or candidate membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute or Professional Engineers of Ontario is considered an asset
  • Experience with a variety of alternative delivery model projects is considered an asset (P3, DBF, DB)

Experience

Ideally, your experience can demonstrate the following:

  • Successful project delivery as a Project Manager or Environmental Lead for TPAP and/or Individual/Comprehensive EAs
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant municipal, provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and regulatory permitting and approval requirements
  • Experience in business development activities including client development and responding to RFPs
  • Environmental management during construction, including developing environmental management plans, on-site monitoring and documentation is considered an asset
  • Experience with implementation and management of environmental management systems that conform to ISO 14001
