Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking to add a talented professional at the junior level as a Geoscientists to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience. 

 

At Dillon, we operate as one team, and this full-time position is available at our Fredericton office location in New Brunswick.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

 

  • Coordinate and complete exploration programs for industrial minerals, including prospecting, drilling, and geophysical surveys.
  • Assistance in the development of environmental permits in support of exploration and development projects.
  • Log bedrock core, including recording detailed observations, photographing core, and compiling formatted logs.
  • Develop three-dimensional geological models to support understanding the subsurface conditions.
  • Possibility of conducting geophysical investigations with magnetometers, ground penetrating radar and electromagnetic devices in wilderness terrain.
  • Assist with field programs from other groups as needed, including supporting contaminated site investigations, hydrogeological investigations, soil/groundwater/surface water/sediment/soil vapour sampling programs, and contaminated site remediation projects.
  • Complete documentation of field activities, site health and safety meetings, among others in paper and digital formats (as required); Completion of activities including preparation. of sampling plans, collection and compilation of field data, digital geo-referenced data, and completion of field notes.
  • Contribution to environmental monitoring tasks on construction and industrial sites;
  • Assist in preparation of  Mineral Reports of Work, including: compilation and analysis of data, borehole logs, and desktop background research.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain project specific equipment;
  • Ability to work remotely for up to two weeks.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Ability to work alone in the field with guided direction or partial supervision.

 

       Project Coordination 

  • Coordinate with laboratories, clients, subcontractors, third-party stakeholders.
  • Assist in report writing and preparation of technical memos, letters, reports, spreadsheets and figures.
  • Providing assistance to project managers, geologists, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams with the opportunity to develop into a Project Manager.

Qualifications

       What you will need to succeed

  • A degree in Geology, Geoscience, Geological Engineering or Environmental Science or a related environmental discipline.
  • 0 to 2 years of experience in geological consulting or exploration will be an asset.
  • Ability to collect field data according to provincial and/or federal requirements.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work 12 hour shifts outdoors in a wilderness environment in various types of weather for 14 days.
  • Versatile, adaptable, and willing to conduct a variety of tasks.
  • Comfortable with use and operation of a 4X4 truck in an off-road environment.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to continuously carry an approximately 25lbs backpack for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to travel by boat long distances.
  • Eligibility to register as a P.Geo or P.Eng. (or member in training) will be an asset.

Experience

  • Knowledge of relevant provincial and federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Experience in the collection of geological samples.
  • Experience in Leapfrog and ArcGIS would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient in data entry, data compilation and the management of databases.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in the writing of technical reports.
