Your opportunity

Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking for a Junior Environmental Technologist or Technician to join our existing talent base in Western Canada. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Field Activities 

  • Complete field activities in accordance with established health and safety protocols.
  • Coordinate and complete fieldwork for contaminated sites projects, including Phase I, II & III Environmental Site Assessments, hydrogeological investigations, and remediation programs. Tasks to include site inspections, soil/groundwater/surface water/sediment/soil vapour sampling, hydraulic conductivity testing, and subcontractor supervision during drilling and test pit investigations and remedial excavation programs.
  • Coordinate and complete designated hazardous substance surveys including asbestos and lead sampling and assist in air emissions testing programs.
  • Complete documentation of field activities, site health and safety meetings, and chain of custody forms.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain project specific field equipment.

 

Project Coordination 

  • Coordinate with laboratories, clients, subcontractors, and third-party stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparation of technical memos, letters, reports, spreadsheets and figures including data tables and borehole/test pit logs.
  • Assist project managers, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

 

  • A diploma in environmental or civil engineering technology, degree in environmental sciences, degree in engineering, or a related environmental fields.
  • Strong work ethic with genuine interest in environmental consulting and field work.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office i.e. Excel and Word.
  • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work remotely in the field for up to two weeks.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Ability to work alone in the field with guided direction or partial supervision.

Experience

  • Experience in any of the following would be considered an asset:

    • Phased Environmental Site Assessment and remediation and/or hazardous building material surveys.
    • Soil and groundwater sampling.
    • Knowledge in several of: geology, hydrogeology, environmental sampling procedures, environmental chemistry, site characterization, waste management, remediation, and health and safety.
    • Knowledge of relevant provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies.
    • Proficiency in ESdat, Surfer, gINT, AutoCAD, or GIS.

Training 

The successful candidate may be asked to mobilize to Manitoba for a two-week duration to be trained on drilling and groundwater monitoring projects.
