Your opportunity

Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking for an Intermediate Environmental Site Assessment/Excess Soils Professional to join our multidisciplinary team. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Technical Project Delivery

  • Provide technical support for projects related to the assessment and management of environmental contaminants in soil, groundwater, and other media,phased environmental site assessments (ESAs) and the Record of Site Condition (O.Reg. 153/04 RSC) process and remediation in Ontario.
  • Leading and/or contributing to technical work relating to excess soils management in Ontario (O.Reg. 406/19).
  • Lead/oversee the environmental site assessment and excess soils management teams on fast paced transit and transportation infrastructure, land development and environmental due diligence projects, including preparation and writing technical reports, technical reviews of deliverables, and development of scopes of work.
  • Comply with corporate, client, and site-specific health and safety protocols and programs and applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Prepare and manage: health and safety programs for field projects, coordinate field programs (related to collection of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediments, indoor air, soil vapour, etc), prepare project contracts and agreements, complete sub-contractor selection and oversight, and organize/manage field teams
  • Work with senior specialists, lead the management and interpretation of data including the presentation of data in data tables and figures.
  • Potentially act as main point of contact/client liaison to communicate technical and project management information to client teams
  • Manage multiple simultaneous environmental projects involving teams of environmental staff and specialists.

 

Business Development 

  • Respond to Requests for Proposal related to contaminated sites and excess soils work to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Coordinate, manage and build business relationships with: clients, regulators, service providers (e.g., laboratories, sub-contractor) and third-party stakeholders.
  • Business travel and field work may be required from time to time.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • Six or more years of experience in environmental consulting or related experience, including project coordination and management.
  • A degree in environmental engineering, geoscience, or another relevant environmental discipline.
  • Professional designation or eligibility to achieve professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo) within six months in Ontario, is an asset.
  • Exceptional reporting skills, including the ability to develop project-specific reports outside of generic templates.
  • In depth knowledge of the regulations governing contaminated sites and environmental work in Ontario (e.g. O.Reg. 153/04, R.R.O. Reg. 903, O. Reg. 406/19, R.R.O. Reg. 347, etc.).
  • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.

Experience

  • Technical proficiency in site characterization, field procedures, reporting and health and safety. Additional proficiency in excess soils management, geology, hydrogeology, chemistry, remediation, cost estimation, contracting/construction administration and/or observation, hazardous materials, risk assessment, and data management are considered an asset.

  • Proven experience managing multiple contaminated sites/ESA related projects of various overall project value (e.g., $5,000 - $100,000+) considered an asset. 
  • Has or is fully able to obtain Federal Security Status (Reliability or greater) and satisfactorily passes a police check.
  • Management/coordination of projects in remote and urban locations.
  • Experience with geological/geotechnical investigations (e.g., tunnelling, mining, aggregate) considered an asset.
  • Experience in technical support to large multi-disciplinary projects (e.g., Environmental Assessments, transportation, transit projects, etc) considered an asset. 
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office family of products.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
