Your opportunity 

We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Planning Technician in our Windsor Office. This is an office-based position and will require working from Dillon’s Windsor office.

As a Planning Technician with keen attention to detail, you thrive on producing high quality deliverables. You are driven by tight deadlines in a fast-paced collaborative team environment. Your strong time management and communication skills allow you to manage multiple tasks on a wide range of projects with varying client and project team needs. As a key member of our team, you’ve moved beyond using Powerpoint to create eye-catching presentations and can develop creative solutions to complex problems in a three dimensional space.

 

Our Planning team consists of a diverse group of Registered Professional Planners, GIS Specialists, Transportation Planning Professionals and Environmental Managers that will support your growth and development. If you want to be involved in Master Planning Studies, Environmental Assessments for infrastructure design, development planning projects, creation of high quality visual renderings and 3D modeling; our team is ready to meet you and help you achieve your full potential.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

 

Planning & Design

  • Provide support to Planning Team members
  • Assist with public and agency consultation programs
  • Develop high quality graphics and maps for reports, consultation materials and proposals
  • Create and manage interactive and user friendly project websites
  • Assist with development of 3D models using a variety of software applications including Virtual Reality software
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees
  • Business travel to other Dillon offices upon request

  • Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development
  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees

Qualifications

  • Completion of a 2 year post-secondary school diploma from a Community College in Urban and Regional Planning Technology or a related field (e.g. GIS and Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, Applied Planning, etc.)
  • Registered, or eligible for registration with the Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians (CACPT)
  • New graduate or soon-to-be graduate to two years’ experience, preferably in the consulting industry
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s license
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Microsoft Word and Excel and database software

Experience

  • Developing graphics and maps gained through experience with Adobe Creative Suite and other software applications (Adobe Pro, In-Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD, SketchUp, etc.)
  • Demonstrated strengths in report writing and visual communication tools such as Virtual Reality and/or 3D renderings
  • Some experience with coordinating planning approvals and permits is an asset
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities to assist with tracking public engagement plans
  • Familiarity with environmental assessment requirements and legislation, including the Canadian Impact Assessment Act, Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, and Class EA processes
  • Experience with linear infrastructure, transportation, transit, and power utilities will be considered an asset
  • Experience with site plan approvals and plan of subdivision processes will be considered an asset
