Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking for an Senior Environmental Professional to join our multidisciplinary team. You will have the opportunity to enhance Dillon’s Contaminant Assessment Management and Remediation Programs in British Columbia which will include delivering existing work, engaging new clients, and building a dynamic team to work collaboratively with Dillon’s existing Geoscience team across the country.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

 

 Technical Team Leadership and Development

  • Prepared to lead the technical development of local staff, with the support of Dillon’s training programs and broader team of environmental professionals.
  • Provide technical and business mentorship to less experienced environmental professionals.
  • Engage in team building and recruiting for the Vancouver office.
  • Responsible for local team engagement and integration with Dillon’s national team of over 120 environmental professionals practicing in environmental due diligence, site assessment, soil and groundwater remediation, spill response, hydrogeology, and hazardous materials assessments.

 

Project Management & Design 

  • Project management and coordination support to the local and national contaminated site teams including phased environmental site assessment and site remediation. 
  • Development of remedial action plans and assistance in the design of site remediation options, including completion of feasibility studies of environmental remediation options and/or contaminant site management options. 
  • Economic analyses, capital cost estimates and operating cost estimates in support of remedial design.
  • Understand environmental regulations related to contaminated sites work in British Columbia and other jurisdictions (e.g., Federal Lands, adjacent provinces or territories).
  • Prepare and manage: health and safety plans for field projects, prepare project contracts and agreements, and complete sub-contractor selection. Coordinate, manage and build business relationships with: clients, regulators, service providers (e.g., laboratories, sub-contractor) and third-party stakeholders.
  • Preparation and technical review of written reports including: Phase I/II/III ESAs, conceptual site models, remedial options evaluations and remedial action plans.

Business Development 

  • Work with client managers and business unit leads within Dillon’s business development and sales framework to identify, support and pursue contaminated assessment and remediation related opportunities. 
  • Developing winning proposals.
  • Establish a reputation for contaminated sites expertise and specialized services, internally to Dillon, and externally to existing and new clients. 
  • Maintaining relationships with existing clients and building relationships with new clients.
  • Travel to other business locations and Dillon offices for the purposes of client relationship development, opportunity/project research and project delivery, as necessary.

  • Technical research, technology evaluations in support of contaminated site remediation and/or waste management design

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • A degree in engineering, geology, biology, ecology, hydrogeology or a related environmental science or engineering discipline.
  • Certification or designation through The Contaminated Sites Approved Professionals Society(CSAP), Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP), Engineers & Geoscientist British Columbia (EGBC), or alternative.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in environmental consulting and/or related work experience.
  • Strong interest in growing and developing the company's contaminated sites management services through the coaching / technical mentoring of staff.
  • Strong conceptual skills in evaluation of geological and hydrogeological systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in multidisciplinary teamwork as well as the ability to work independently.

Experience

  • Strong background in several of: Phase I, II, & III ESAs, soil and groundwater sampling programs, surface water and sediment sampling programs, soil vapour sampling, contaminated site remediation project, and health and safety. Additional background would be considered an asset for projects involving hazardous materials assessments, risk assessments, hydrogeological investigations, geophysics, solid waste management, environmental management,  or industrial air quality. 
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies, including the British Columbia  Environmental Code and British Columbia Environmental Quality Guidelines.
  • Demonstrated success in the leadership of multidisciplinary project teams and business development.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and plan work to meet time-based deliverables and adapt to changing expectations.
  • Strong proficiency in proposal and report writing, presentations, communications, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of AUTOCAD, GIS, Surfer, GINT or database abilities will be an asset.

 

Compensation

 

$76,323 - $140,375

 

Dillon includes the salary range that we in good faith believe may offer for this position, and is dependent on the successful applicant’s education, experience, and skills, in addition to internal equity and geographic region. Dillon reserves the right to pay outside of the posted range, contingent on factors unrelated to an applicant’s gender or other status protected by provincial and/or federal law.
