Your Opportunity
Are you a future engineer with a passion for transportation structures? Dillon’s structural group is looking for a Structural (Bridge) Engineering Student to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals for a four (4) month (minimum) work term, commencing as early as May 2025. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.


At Dillon, we operate as one team nationally; however, this position is available at Dillon’s Winnipeg, Manitoba office.

Responsibilities

What Your Day Will Look Like

 

Technical Work

  • Assistance to project managers with structural and multidisciplinary projects
  • Assistance in the preparation of structural designs for transportation infrastructure including: 
    • bridges, culverts, and supporting infrastructure design
    • engineering studies
    • technical specifications
    • design calculations
  • Assistance with site investigations and condition assessments
  • Assistance with contract administration tasks including construction observation, shop drawing review, contractor submittal review, progress payment preparation, and responding to requests for information 
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary team members 
  • Contribution to business development activities including client need research, preparation of project proposals and presentations
  • Business travel within Manitoba or to other Dillon offices upon request

Qualifications

Education 

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering program and at a minimum, have completed the 3rd year (of five).

Experience

  • Strong interpersonal, communications, organization and time management skills
  • Knowledge of industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practices
  • Understanding project design and implementation activities including development of design drawings and reports, contract document preparation, tendering, and contract administration
  • Experience with field inspection or construction observation is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CSA S6), and other relevant transportation engineering standards is considered an asset
  • Experience working on bridge structures is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of current AutoCAD software is considered an asset
