Dillon’s Communities and Environment technical group is looking for a Field Inspector in Windsor to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work in the field on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Project Coordination and Construction Observation

  • Manage on-site construction observation of infrastructure projects, ensuring that projects meet the requirements of contract drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate daily records of conditions, site activities, field measurements, and work progress.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager and Client.
  • Perform construction administration services and coordination including preparing, reviewing, and tracking schedule, day-to-day liaison with contractors and consultants, attending job meetings, preparation of progress payments, meeting minutes, record keeping and reporting.
  • Coordinate, monitor and witness required testing activities to ensure that testing is being carried out at the prescribed frequency and that the results are acceptable.
  • Review construction documentation including submittal and shop drawing reviews.
  • Ensure construction compliance to the contractual drawings and specifications.
  • Provide general construction observation during construction on all construction labor and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship meet the contractual requirements.
  •  Record and track as-built markups.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology would be an asset.
  • Licensed to practice as a Certified Engineering Technologist, or eligible to be licensed within six months, an asset.
  • A minimum of two years' related work experience.
  • Ability to interpret contract drawings for municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to operate survey rod and level is an asset.
  • Ability to recognize potential technical issue with designs during construction and take appropriate actions in coordination with the Project Manager.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Comfortable with providing direction to the contractor onsite as needed through CA/PM, as required.
  • Able to keep organized notes related to daily site activities, contractor equipment used, quantities and document with photos.
  • Valid drivers license.

Experience

  • Experience as a construction observer on large municipal infrastructure projects or land development projects is considered and asset.
  • Working knowledge of relevant municipal/provincial standards and regulatory requirements.
  • In depth knowledge of contract administration services and requirements.
  • Expert knowledge of municipal servicing standards and environmental approvals requirements.
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills are essential.
