Your opportunity

Dillon’s Health & Safety group is looking for a Health & Safety Specialist to join our team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on positively influencing our health and safety performance and our safety culture across the organization.   

 

This role is a 12-month contract for maternity leave with the possibility of extension or permanent placement. 

 

At Dillon, we operate as one team. This position is available at any of Dillon’s 26 offices across Canada.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

 

  • Provide coordination and support in the development and implementation of the company health and safety program, policies and procedures
  • Provide subject matter expertise in the creation of Safe Work Procedures
  • Track progress towards meeting Health & Safety objectives and targets
  • Assist with investigations of incidents to determine root cause and reduce occurrences 
  • Regular reporting to management of safety performance indicators, opportunities for improvement, and the status of objectives, initiatives, and compliance requirements
  • Assist in the development, delivery and coordination of health & safety training requirements
  • Maintain health & safety pre-qualifications, contractor approval programs and vendor management systems (i.e., ISNetworld, Avetta, ComplyWorks, etc.)
  • Participate and support in obtaining or maintaining Certificate of Recognition (COR) accreditations
  • Review, assess  and provide insights  for training, incidents, audit assessments, non-conformances and corrective actions
  • Monitor compliance requirements based on Health & Safety legislation and regulations
  • Technical assistance to the Director, Health & Safety and project teams on hazard assessments, training, protective equipment selection, and in-field monitoring when needed
  • Assist with health & safety communication to all staff, document creation, and document management activities in relation to reports, alerts, letters, and memos
  • Complete other duties as required by the Director, Health & Safety

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

 

  • A post-secondary education with a health and safety certificate or related discipline
  • Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is an asset
  • Certificate of Recognition (COR) auditor training/experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of Provincial, Territorial and Federal safety standards, legislation and regulations
  • Knowledge of H&S standards, legislative requirements and regulation

Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant health and safety experience
  • Experience with third party prequalification databases (such as ISNetworld)
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google applications
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational, planning and coordination skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
