Your opportunity 

Dillon’s Community Design group is looking for a Junior to Intermediate Planner to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals in our Calgary or Yellowknife  offices.

 

As a Planner, you will be an integral part of our planning team, contributing to the successful execution of diverse projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on a wide range of initiatives across Western and Northern Canada, providing you with valuable experience and the chance to collaborate with a talented team of planners.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

  • Assist with assignments including community planning, land use planning, land development, planning approvals, permitting, as well as consultation and engagement, among other responsibilities. 
  • Conduct research and data analysis.
  • Prepare reports and presentations.
  • Prepare agendas and schedules, record meeting minutes, and write memos. 
  • Develop, coordinate and participate in consultations and engagement programs.
  • Collaborate with team members across various disciplines to ensure cohesive project execution.
  • Participate in external client meetings. 
  • Provide additional support as needed.

  • Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • A degree in Planning that is recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP)
  • 2 to 4 years of relevant planning experience, preferably in the consulting industry
  • Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI)

Experience

Experience

  • Familiarity with municipal planning policy and legislation, and the land development process
  • Familiar with local, Provincial and Federal agencies' permitting and approvals processes
  • Experience conducting or facilitating consultations and engagement programs. IAP2 certification is considered an asset. Experience working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset
  • Preparation of high-quality deliverables
  • Ability to think critically and strategically
  • Responsible, organized, accountable, and committed to excellence on all levels
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Versatile and adaptable with the ability to work in a self-directed, multidisciplinary team setting
  • Skills in graphic design and presentation, including: GIS, google sketch-up, PowerPoint and Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), is considered an asset
  • Strong writing skills; proficiency in report and plan writing
