Job Summary
Dillon is currently seeking qualified candidates for the existing interim position of Watershed Enhancement Team Leader to assist in the delivery of the 2026 City of Surrey Salmon Habitat Restoration Program (SHaRP), which will be celebrating 30 years of successful watershed enhancement and environmental stewardship.

The Watershed Enhancement Team Leaders will lead a team of high school students operating from the SHaRP office located in Surrey, BC to implement watershed restoration prescriptions under the direction of the SHaRP Program Coordinator and Client. This is a field-based position with a focus on invasive plant removal and riparian restoration. Successful applicants will receive experience and training in environmental restoration and watershed enhancement techniques.

 

Work Term:  4-month (May 1 -August 28, 2026) and 7-month (May 1 -August 28 with September 8 to November 27 extension) interim positions available.

Hours: 40 hours/week during the summer and 37.5 hours/week in the fall, Monday to Friday with some weekend and evening shifts.

Hourly Wage: $26.05

Location:  Surrey, BC

Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with other post-secondary students to implement environmental initiatives that will enhance streams and riparian areas within the City of Surrey;
  • Training and supervision of field and outreach crews consisting of up to 10 secondary school students;
  • Completion of field activities such as invasive plant removal, fish habitat assessments, stream bank erosion protection and stabilization, native plant installation, and water quality sampling; 
  • Environment-focused education and public outreach to City residents and businesses;
  • Planning, implementation and supervision of daily activities;
  • Regular tracking of project deliverables and providing progress updates to supervisors; and
  • Completion of summary reports

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree or diploma program;
  • Ability to participate in a moderate to high range of physical work outdoors in all weather conditions;
  • Willingness and ability to work occasional weekend and evening work;
  • Full availability for the duration of the work-term (4 or 7 months);
  • Must have a valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver’s License;
  • Clearance of a criminal record check as a condition of employment;
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in working collaboratively in a team environment while exercising judgment and a high level of professionalism; 
  • Strong work ethic and self-starter – able to effectively manage multiple priorities and adapt to change within a fast-paced environment; and
  • Experience or training in one or more of the following disciplines would be an asset: fish habitat enhancement and restoration; native and invasive plant identification and management; ecological principles; water quality sampling; industrial businesses, and/or agricultural stewardship.
