Overview

We are currently seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Linear Municipal Infrastructure team. Our team specializes in the critical networks that keep a community moving and connected, including water mains, sanitary sewers, stormwater systems, and roadways. 

 

This is a new position and is based at our Halifax or Sydney office. We offer flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangement options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

Responsibilities

About the Position

Project Coordination and Design

  • Assist project managers and engineers in the functional and detailed design of municipal infrastructure related to roads, water supply, sewers, roadway drainage, land development site servicing, storm water management and waste management for a variety of locations including Northern Canada
  • Assist project managers, engineers, environmental scientists and others on a variety of multidisciplinary design teams (including project engineers, planners, biologists, technologists, etc.)
  • Complete design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members
  • Assist with fieldwork in a variety of locations including Northern Canada, on an as needed basis to provide construction observation, monitoring and data collection activities
  • We empower our teams to automate the routine so they can focus on high-value, creative problem-solving. You will be encouraged to experiment with AI-enabled tools to push the boundaries of traditional design.

Sustainable Business Development

  • Contribute to business development activities including client need research, preparation of project proposals and presentations
  • Business travel to other Dillon offices
  • Travel to other Dillon offices as needed to support collaboration, share knowledge, and drive growth across the firm.

Qualifications

  • A degree in civil engineering
  • Registered as an engineer-in-training, or be eligible within six months
  • 3 – 5 years' experience, preferably in the consulting industry

Experience

  • Knowledge of the functional and detailed design of integrated municipal infrastructure including roads, sewers and watermains
  • Understand a range of project design and implementation activities including development of design drawings and reports, contract document preparation, tendering, and contract administration
  • Working knowledge of current AutoCAD software; working knowledge of Civil 3D/Land Desktop software will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of relevant municipal/provincial engineering standards and regulatory requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with local regulations, policies, guidelines, and provincial and municipal permit requirements for environmental agencies
  • Proven skills in detail design of municipal infrastructure
  • Familiarity with both construction inspection and contract administration would be considered an asset
  • Familiarity with Northern Canadian design or construction related practices would be considered an asset
  • Exceptional communication (verbal and written) skills are essential
